Who knew a little tube of cream could change the world? In 1978 we had a revolutionary idea: that there was not enough choice when it came to support for PMS and peri/menopause. So we created Pro-Gest to give women a much-deserved alternative. It's the only progesterone cream that's been clinically-tested. It's the best-selling progesterone cream available anywhere (and has been for many years). And now it's paraben-free.
Why a Paraben-Free choice? We recently learned of a 2004 research study suggesting that exposure to parabens may have negative health effects. And while the results of the study are not conclusive, we decided to be proactive. We immediately began developing paraben-free formulations for our products. Just to be on the safe side.
Ingredients: Water, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit E), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Carthamus Tinctorius (Hybrid Safflower) Seed Oil, Panthenol, Glycerin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Sodium Behenoyl Lactylate, Stearic Acid, USP Progesterone, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Carbomer
Contains No Parabens, mineral oil, petroleum or animal anything. And our products are never tested on animals.
How do I use Pro-Gest?
Many women appreciate our natural progesterone cream because it's not another pill they have to take. Pro-Gest® cream is easy to use. To apply, just massage a ¼ teaspoon into your skin twice a day as recommended on the package. Apply it to your inner arms, inner thighs, abdomen, or chest, rotating the areas where applied. It absorbs quickly through the skin, and you're on your way back to a natural balance in no time.
Suggested Use: Pro-Gest is best used according to your menstrual status. The following are general recommendations that should be confirmed or modified in concert with your health care provider.
Women in their reproductive years: Pro-Gest is best used during the second half of your menstrual cycle, for the two weeks prior to menstruation.
Days 1 (first day of bleeding) -13: do not use Pro-Gest.
Days 14 - 21: use ¼ teaspoon twice a day.
Days 22-28: use ¼ to ½ teaspoon of Pro-Gest twice a day.
The suggested use is based on a 28-day cycle. If your cycle is shorter or longer you may need to adjust the timing of use, earlier or later than day 14, to fit with ovulation. If your period begins early, STOP using the Pro-Gest while you are bleeding. Count the first day of bleeding as day one, and begin the cycle again.
Women who are perimenopausal (still menstruating, with cycle changes):
Days 1 (first day of bleeding) - 7: do not use Pro-Gest
Days 8-21: use ¼ teaspoon of Pro-Gest twice a day.
Days 22-28: use ¼ to ½ teaspoon of Pro-Gest twice a day.
If your period begins early, STOP using the Pro-Gest while you are bleeding. Count the first day of bleeding as day one, and begin the cycle again. If your period is late, use the cream for up to 3 weeks (day 28 of your cycle), then take a week off. If your period has not started by the end of the week off, resume use of the cream as described above for days 8-28 or until your period starts. STOP the cream when your period begins. Count the first day of bleeding as day one of your cycle, and begin the cycle over again.
Women who are menopausal or post-menopausal (no longer menstruating): Choose a calendar day (e.g. first day of the month) as day one.
Days 1-7: do not use Pro-Gest.
Days 8-30 (or 31): use 1/8 to ¼ teaspoon of Pro-Gest twice a day.
If needed, you may use up to ½ teaspoon of Pro-Gest twice a day according to the same schedule.
Can I use too much progesterone?
Progesterone causes a calming effect on the central nervous system. In excessive amounts, it may have a relaxing effect on the brain or cause drowsiness. In a very few women who are extremely sensitive, progesterone of any kind may aggravate hormonal headaches or PMS symptoms. There are no long-term adverse effects noted for supplemental progesterone in amounts that replicate physiological levels of progesterone in the body. We recommend that women not exceed the suggested amount of progesterone cream without the express direction of their health care provider.
WARNING: This product contains progesterone, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer. Consult with your physician before using this product.
